What is a Green Home?

There are many interpretations of what constitutes a "Green Home" but basically it refers to the amount of energy a home uses on a yearly basis. The less energy you use the "greener" your home.  Newer homes are built to stricter building codes so they start off more energy efficient than older homes. However, the addition of new windows, improved insulation, and energy efficient furnaces and appliances have huge impacts on reducing your energy consumption thereby greening up your home. Dave Bonta and Stephen Snyder's book New Green Home Solution : renewable household energy and sustainable living has a wealth of information on greening your home. This is a great book to start with if you are looking for ways to improve energy efficiency and safe money.
