The Luminaries

book cover - The Luminaries

Eleanor Catton's The Luminaries has won Canada's most venerable book prize the Governor General's Literary Award for fiction. This is a hefty murder mystery that features a weary Englishman who lands on the coast of New Zealand to make his fortune and forever leave behind his family's shame. Soon upon arriving he meets with twelve local men who have met in secret to investigate the links between three crimes that occurred on the same day.  Catton's story telling grabs hold of you making it difficult to put down the book.  A great read and a great tribute to a Canadian born author.
