Our Native Land

book cover image The Once and Future Great Lakes Country

John Riley's new book The Once and Future Great Lakes Country: An Ecological History traces environmental change in the Great Lakes region looking as far back as the last ice age.  Riley chronicles how the region saw massive declines in its wildlife and native plants in the centuries after European contact. He also recounts how this decline brought us to a cross roads that has led to increased nature protection and re-wilding in recent decades.  The book provides encouragement for the future of our lands, waters, fish and wildlife as you hear not just the resonance of ages past but the forward thinking of recent generations to protect our native land.  Riley will be here at London Public Library on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 to present Our Native Land and Modern Footprint: Ecological change through time at the Wolf Performance Hall.  You may also purchase this book for $40 at the presentation.
