My favourite children's book of 2018 is...

Hedgehog Needs a Hug, written and illustrated by Jen Betton. Hedgehog wakes up feeling down in the dumps and he knows that a hug is what he needs to turn his day around. But being hesitant of Hedgehog's prickles, his woodland friends are not reciprocating his offer. Before too long though, Hedgehog meets another animal who may just be feeling the same way. After all, everyone needs a hug, EVEN if they're prickly!

I loved this book because everyone needs a hug sometimes, especially in today's world where tragedy, conflict, and controversy are ever so present. With hugs, we can spread kindness, compassion, and affection to those around us. The illustrations are beautiful, soft, and rich with colour. This was a wonderful read aloud story to share with toddlers and preschoolers as it features recognizable woodland animals to spread a valuable message.
