Sad to say, our time with Writer-in-Residence Dave Carley is coming to an end in May.
The culminating event 2008-2009 Writer-in-Residence program is the reading of Dave Carley's play, Taking Liberties on May 27, 2009. Taking Liberties examines five critical moments in the life of a city, when ordinary citizens are forced to make extraordinary choices.Through dramatic readings by accomplished local actors, the play moves through five decades, showing how the moral dilemmas of one era can impact the events of another. Commentary provided by Dave Carley.

Who is Dave Carley?
Dave Carley is a Canadian playwright whose works have been produced across Canada and the United States, as well as in many countries around the world. His stage plays include Writing with our Feet, Taking Liberties, After You, The Last Liberal, and an adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Edible Woman. His drama Orchidelirium premiered at Toronto’s Factory Theatre in 2004 and received three Dora Nominations, including one for Best New Play. Go to www.davecarley.com for more on Dave.
What is his role as Writer in Residence at London Public Library?
The Writer in Residence program provides the writer a chance to work on his own writing projects, and at the same time be available to library patrons and city residents who want advice, tips, and support. Dave has been working in drama (mostly radio and theatre) for twenty years. If you want to chat, throw ideas by Dave, or just explore the opportunities available for writers in the theatre business, he can help. Or, if you have a script and want some concrete advice – Dave can do too.

How to submit a transcript?

Manuscripts should:
• Be typed, double-spaced on white 8 ½ x 11 paper
• Include your name, address and telephone number on the cover sheet
• Include a short paragraph on your experience as a writer, and any training or publications to your credit
• Have numbered pages and include your last name on each page (e.g., Smith - page 3).
• Maximum length: 20 pages
• Limit of one manuscript per person
• Retain your original manuscript. Send only copies.
