20 June 2008 - 3:43pmThis is a fun novel! It's about four children who want to be rid of their parents as much as their parents want to be rid of them: enter the kind nanny and the rich and lonely neighbour. They like the children just the way they are. Enjoy the references to other famous works in children's literature. This book is good for ages 8 and up.

This is a fun novel. It's about four children who want to be rid of their parents as much as their parents want to be rid of them. Enter the kind nanny and the rich and lonely neighbour. Unlike the parents, they think these kids are just fine.
Another Good Summer Read
19 June 2008 - 2:14pm
It's summer in a small town in America during the mid nineteen sixties. What better time to be a boy? Danny, the eight-year-old main character of this story, thinks that the only thing missing from his life is a dog. But then he experiences a loss so profound that the dog he does adopt takes on a kind of importance that no reader could possibly anticipate. This sweetly sad story combines the themes of childhood and death in an unforgettable way. The last paragraph begs to be read over and over. Winner of the Governor General's Literary Award 2007. Recommended for ages 9-13, but a beautiful read for anyone.
Great Summer Read
6 June 2008 - 5:00pm
Reading a book about toads is all the rage right now, so it's the perfect time to read Toad Rage. It's about one lowly toad's adventures "down under." After seeing one-too-many relatives flattened by Mack trucks, Limpy, the hero toad of the story, embarks on a mission to improve toad-human relations. Reading this book will allow you to pick up some interesting Australian slang. When you finish it, all you'll want to say is, "Stack me! I really enjoyed this book!" Good for ages 7-9, amusing for all. There are two sequels: Toad Heaven and Toad Away.
