is a year-round project established in 1992, with an annual campaign during November and December organized by The Friends of the London Public Library and Library staff. The goal is to give books to children who otherwise would not own a book. A Book for Every Child® promotes awareness of the importance of books in a child’s life, supports family literacy and has a direct and lasting impact on children in our community.
This year's campaign will run from November 6 to December 18, 2010.
Financial donations enable Library staff to purchase new books for babies, toddlers, beginning readers, school-aged children and young adults on your behalf. You may also purchase books for A Book for Every Child ® at participating book stores in London. The books are distributed to children who otherwise would not own a book, through more than 50 area agencies serving families and children.
YOU CAN:
Typically, over 6000 books are distributed to children through more than 50 area agencies serving families and children. Participating agencies include: Children’s Aid Society, Madame Vanier Children’s Services, Western Area Youth Services, Merrymount Children’s Centre, and London Intercommunity Health Centre.
“I only wish the donors could have seen the delighted faces of the children. They really found it hard to believe that the book wasn’t on loan - it was their very own!”
Thank you letter from a community agency
“ The children that we select to receive your books are truly kids in need. These are kids that would otherwise possibly never own a book of their own. Many of our children are quite lonely...curling up with a good book can help to fill some of this void....”
