Finding a book, video, magazine or music cd at your library is easy!

To search for any of these items at your Library, click on the catalogue button at the top of this screen.

Search Tips

You will be given a choice of ways to search - by author, by title or by word.

Search by word when:

  • you are searching by topic or subject
  • you know some of the words in the title but not the entire correct title

Search by title when:

  • you know the exact title

Search by author when:

  • you know the exact author's name.Remember to search by last name first. For example, if you are looking for books by Ralph Pettipiece you will type in Pettipiece, Ralph.

You can also look for items that are only at one specific library by clicking on the arrow beside "view entire collection". A drop-down menu will appear and you can click on the specific location you want to search. 

Placing a Hold

If your library doesn't have the item you want and it's at another London Public Library location, you can place a hold for that item.

That means you can reserve the item so that it will be sent to the Library you choose and that Library will call you when it's ready to be picked up. If someone else has checked out the item, then you'll be added to a waiting list for it. Neat, eh? Best of all, this is free.

It does takes about a week for an item that is on the shelf in another Library to arrive at your Library. There are two ways to place a hold.

  1. If you're at the Library, ask for help and we'll be happy to show you how.
  2. From home or elsewhere,
  • Click on the My Account button on the top of this page. You'll be asked to type in your name and library card number. Fill those in and click Go.
  • On the screen that appears you'll see your name and information about your account such as how many books you have out, your fines and your holds. Click on Search the Catalogue and search for items like you usually would (see above).
  • After you've clicked on a title, you'll see a button that says "Place hold"? Click that. Another screen will appear. Choose the location you want it delivered to and ignore the date. Click okay.
  • Bingo Presto - you just placed a hold! We'll give you a call when it arrives and you'll have 5 days to pick it up.
