Ancestry Database

Ancestry Library Edition:  This database can be accessed on site at a London Public Library location.

Ancestry Library Edition makes family research easy for beginners while still providing in-depth tools for even the most advanced genealogists. It has unparalleled coverage of the United States and the United Kingdom, including census, vital, church, court, and immigration records, as well as record collections from Canada and other areas.

London Room

The Ivey Family London Room is a research facility for genealogy and local history located at the Central Library. It contains a wealth of secondary source materials on the city of London and the counties of Elgin, Middlesex, Norfolk and Oxford as well as original materials on the city of London and Middlesex County, such as:

  • books, diaries & manuscripts, minutes, maps, photographs and other memorabilia, selected municipal documents

For those conducting family history research, collection emphasis is southwestern Ontario and includes:

  • census, cemetery transcriptions, vital statistics indexes, birth/marriage/death records, passenger lists, family histories

The London Room is open when the Central Library is open.

Research Service

You can request research help by filling out the Research Request Form on our website.

There is no charge for staff assistance for:

  • factual information that can be answered in less than 5 minutes using a single source
  • a maximum of 3 London city directory or telephone book answers

Information requests that involve a systematic investigation using our resources will have a charge levied. A charge will be incured whether or not an answer is found.

London Room staff will handle the questions in the order in which they are received. London Room staff will provide referrals to local professional researchers if the patron wishes to engage their services. The library does reserve the right to refuse the provision of research services, and, in these circumstances, will provide a referral to local professional researchers.

 Image Gallery Reproductions

The Image Gallery contains hundreds of photographs of local buildings, people, and landscapes taken in the 1800s and early 1900s.
You can:

  • browse the images by date, subject or location
  • search for particular buildings, businesses or people
  • print images directly from the website, for research or private use, at no charge
  • purchase higher resolution images, 600 dpi (jpg) or 1200 dpi (archival tiff), on CD. There are no facilities for making hard copy prints at the library.
  • purchase one-time usage fees for images used for publication, broadcast or in presentation software
  • the quality of the reproduction is dependant on the original scanned
