The London Public Library has lots to offer elementary school teachers!

We know that students use both the school library and the public library to research assignments and choose reading material, and by working together we can help to provide your students with the best possible educational experience.

Curriculum Support – 24/7!

• Use the online catalogue to find materials in many formats (books, CDs, DVDs, videos and more!)
• Free online access from the Library, school or home to a number of information databases especially for kids. All that is needed is a valid London Public Library card. For added convenience, temporary e-accounts can be set up to allow access to the information databases if you or your students do not have a card.
• Homework Help on both the Kids page and Teen page of our website which includes recommended resources and websites on many curriculum topics, research tips and strategies and more.

Class Visits

We invite you to bring your class to any Library location so that they can become familiar with the services and resources we offer. Or, we can arrange to visit your class.

Types of Visits

Library Orientation (All Grades)
Let us show your students what the library has to offer - program information, homework help, library cards and more! All visits can include a fun, literacy-based activity that will appeal to each grade level.

Projects: Getting Started (All Grades)
Arrange a visit that fits any unit of study. Your librarian can set aside materials and students can learn how to use our print and electronic sources. In addition, check out our special curriculum-based visits for selected units of study (on reverse).

Reading Fun (Grades JK-Grade 3)
Add some more fun to your unit of study with a storytime visit to your library. Tell us your theme and we’ll excite your students with age-appropriate stories and crafts. We will show them around the library and time can be left to browse and borrow items.  

Exploring Books and Authors (Grades 4-8)
Encourage a love of reading for the entire class. We will highlight new, popular and well-loved books or authors that appeal to both advanced and reluctant readers. Your librarian can help to choose age-appropriate books and magazines that your students will love to read.

Your Virtual Library (Grades 4-8)
Book a fun and interactive visit for your class to learn about all the great things they can do through the Library’s website. There is something for everyone! Students will learn how to use our catalogue to find materials and place holds, to discover recommended websites, to search for magazine and newspaper articles and to post comments on books they have read.

Special Curriculum-based Visits
Special visits geared to your curriculum needs have been developed to enhance selected units of study. Each of these visits includes stories, crafts or activities, and suggested resources.
Ask about booking a visit for:

o Grade 4 – Medieval Times

R.E.A.D.

The R.E.A.D. Program (Reading Enjoyment and Development) is designed to help children who are having difficulty with reading by:

• Inspiring a love of reading
• Creating a positive relationship with a volunteer reading partner
• Motivating children to read and use the library
• Encouraging families to read together
• Introducing children to a variety of reading materials
