Read Away Your Fines 2010 for Kids and Teens

We're giving kids and teens a chance to ‘start fresh’ before the summer…from May 25 - June 25, kids and teens can "earn" money off their fines by reading.

How does this work?

  • Kids or teens come to the Circ Desk or Help Desk with their library card and ask about the program.
  • Staff will give them a coupon and ask them to sit nearby and read.
  • When they are done, they return to staff with the coupon; staff record the reading end time, their initials and the dollar value.
  • Kids take completed coupon to Circ Desk to have it applied to their fines.

How much can be earned off fines by reading?

  • 15 minutes of reading = $1.00 off
  • 30 minutes = $2.00 off
  • 45 minutes = $3.00 off
  • 1 hour = $4.00 off
  • and so on....

What's the limit?

There isn't one. Kids and Teens can keep reading until all their overdue fines are cleared up. We want to help them to continue to read and use the library.

Are any charges exempt?

Yes. This program is for fines ONLY. This does not apply to charges for lost or damaged items or to other family members’ library cards. They cannot read away if their account has been sent to the Collection Agency.

So bring your kids and teens to the library. They can clear up their own fines and start the summer ready and able to access all our books, downloadable book, movies and music!
