Remember before, when you could get hired by simply going to an employer and asking for a job? Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Now you are required to have a resume and (very often) a cover letter. In some cases you are required to bring copies of your diplomas, certificates, licences and awards.
Think of a cover letter as your introduction to an employer. Make it brief and right to the point. The first paragraph should include the information about the position you are applying for (mainly how you heard about the job opening and why they should hire you). The second paragraph can provide a bit more detailed information about your relevant experience and education. The third paragraph should be a conclusion stating your thankfulness for the time and the given opportunity along with the preferred contact information. It is necessary to ensure that the cover letter and resume use the same format (font type and size, page format, etc. When writing, one thing should be paid a special attention: ask yourself whether your documents are organized, presentable and easy to ready and understand. Always proofread your document.
If you need assistance with formatting or proofreading your documents (cover letter and resume), please come to one of our ERC locations, and we would be happy to assist you.

I cannot agree with you more .You said it brilliantly as that is what many people who are looking for work today are thinking. Why do you need all of sorts of degrees even to work as porter, housekeeper. kitchen helper What can one do even if they do have the experience but not the documents. They hire someone else that they want to train in the way that they want. Not giving experience people a chance to show their skills like they had on their coverletter. Now adays it's not just the degrees, coverletter or resume but who you know as awell.l feel for the next generation because if it is tough for all of us now ,can you just imagine what it's gonna be like for them! But thankgoodness we have the ERC in the Central libraries .Without them alot of people who have never written a coverletter ,updated their resume would probably be turned down or even worse have their documents thrown in the garbage.Thankyou to all of the ERC staff for being there when we need all of the support we can get in looking for a job.
