Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour

Get ready for another three nights of exhilarating stories on the big screen at the Wolf Performance Hall March 16-18, 2020.

Journey to stunning locations, paddle the wildest waters, and climb the highest peaks. The 2019/2020 World Tour brings films from the 44th annual Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival to about 550 communities around the globe. From an exploration of remote landscapes and mountain cultures to adrenaline-fueled action sports, films in this year’s World Tour are sure to captivate and amaze the explorer within you. Be moved. Be inspired. Don’t miss out.

Into the Canyon

When filmmaker/photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko set out on a 1200 km journey on foot through the entire length of the Grand Canyon the challenge becomes far more than they bargained for. Into the Canyon is a story of extreme physical hardship where the bonds of friendship are stretched and the timeless beauty of this sacred place becomes meditation and ultimately a cautionary tale for our complex relationship with the natural world.

REEL ROCK 13: Up to Speed

When climbing was announced as part of the 2020 Olympics, it was a monumental occasion for the sport. But many climbers were shocked to learn that one of three combined events required to compete for a medal is… speed climbing. REEL ROCK correspondent Zachary Barr looks into this little-known and seldom practiced sub-discipline of the sport, and the role it will play in shaping climbing’s future. Barr’s journey from the U.S. to France (the birthplace of modern speed climbing) to South Asia (it’s actually huge there) culminates at an international competition in Moscow, where speed demons race up a 15-metre wall in less than six seconds.
