Library Leadership to Change

March 25, 2008 – The Board of the London Public Library today announced the resignation of Anne Becker from the role of Chief Executive Officer at LPL. Board Chair Svetlana MacDonald praised the organization’s progress with Becker at the helm. “The Library Board is extremely grateful to Anne Becker for her contributions to LPL’s success over the past three years. Her leadership and passion for the Library will be greatly missed,” said MacDonald.

Becker, who joined LPL in June 2005 to design and execute a new strategic plan for the organization, stated that her resignation was a positive personal decision and confirmed her pride in the organization’s transformation.

“The decision was a personal one based on a number of factors. I am pleased and proud of what London Public Library has accomplished in the last three years, guided by our strategic plan, mission and vision,” said Becker. “I am confident that the organization will continue to have great success moving forward and I wish the Board and my colleagues all the very best.”

Since joining LPL, Becker has helped transform the Library into a dynamic community hub -- a relevant, technologically-rich destination with collections, programs and services that compete on the highest level with popular Internet resources and “big box” retailers like Chapters.

The Library Board and Senior Management are currently working together on a transition plan for Library leadership. Until then, Becker will remain in the role of CEO. Transition and succession plans will be shared with the media and the public once they are confirmed.
