BACKGROUND

As part of the process of moving Westmount Branch into its new home in the Southwest multipurpose facility currently under construction, the Library Branch will have a temporary home in the Westmount Shopping Centre from November 14, 2017 through to September 2018.

The building and property currently housing the Westmount Branch Library has sold and the new owners will take possession of the property.

London Public Library is part of a partnership to build a multipurpose facility in the southwest area of London. Our partners are the City of London and YMCA. Plans are underway for a wonderful library in this new facility. This facility is slated to open in the fall of 2018.

NEW LIBRARY LOCATION

I know the new Westmount branch doesn't open for a few weeks.  When it does, what bus route do I use to get there?  How far away from the library door is the bus stop?  Please list the bus route(s) to use and the location of the stop along with the distance information.  I would appreciate it if you post this information now rather than waiting until after the branch reopens - these types of requests tend to get lost in the shuffle!  Thanks

The Westmount Mall stop

The Westmount Mall stop (where the temporary branch will be in a few weeks) is served by a number of busses, as it is a "hub" stop.  Which bus you would take would depend on where you are coming from.  Go inside the main mall doors at the bus stop, turn left at the Tim Horton's, and the library will be there on your left.  From the bus stop to the library I'd estimate it's about 30-40 meters.

We'll post bus routes soon!

We will have this information and more details about the temporary location available shortly.

Westount library

I agree that the Westmount mall would be a perfect location for the new Library especially since Sears is closing. It would help fill an otherwise almost empty building and keep the few stores still there is business. Probably should have been considered before other plans were made a few years ago. This city needs to concentrate more resources on infilling rather than erecting new buikdings and covering more ground with parking lots.

Your feedback

We will pass along your feedback.  Thank you for taking the time to share your comments.  We believe that our community will really appreciate the resources and opportunities available to them in the new Southwest Community Centre, YMCA and Library.

It's too bad they have to

It's too bad they have to close the current location so early. Is is a beautiful space and the community will miss it while awaiting the opening of the new Community Centre.

Temporary Location

Thanks for taking the time to share your comments. We appreciate the understanding of our community as we move into a temporary location in Westmount Shopping Centre. The current location has been purchased and the new owners need to take possession.  We look forward to serving you in our Pop Up Library until we move into the Southwest Community Centre, YMCA and Library.

NEW LIBRARY LOCATION

I'm excited that the Wstmt Library is moving to Wstmt Mall, but disappointed that it will only be temporary!

Wstmt Mall is a fabulous location with so many schools near it, as well as several bus routes! It's very easily accessed by those like myself who don't have a car! It has underground parking for those who do have a vehicle which is so welcomed during rainy & snowy weather!

Your new location does NOT work for me, as I'm sure MANY others WITHOUT a car feel the same way! Your previous location also was a headache to get to by bus with children, but a PERMANENT library in Wstmt Mall is so convenient, especially after picking up the children from the public schools across the street... & also for the High School students (& nearby churches & grocery stores)!!

I pray that you reconsider keeping the Wstmt Library in Wstmt Mall PERMANENTLY! I'm sure that the new YMCA will still do very well without a library attached to it because those people who drive there can very easily also drive to Wstmt Mall, whereas we adults, seniors, disabled & children who have to take the bus will be greatly inconvenienced. London buses are seldom on schedule, so having to take ONE bus to get to the new library will be so frustrating! Again, Wstmt Mall has a few buses stopping there, so people can come from many directions to a library there! A PERMANENT library in Wstmt Mall would also bring much needed REVIVAL, growth & prosperity to it!!

Thank you for your deep consideration of my request &  comments, as I know that I also speak on behalf of many other people!

This will not happen. They

This will not happen. They are signed into a contract to be partners with the YMCA. I’m sure they will change bus routes as they do every year to accommodate

Westmount Library Closure

Enjoyed many years at the Westmount location. Sorry to hear it close. Many people in the community use that branch.
