By Katherena Vermette

This beautiful graphic novel will appeal to just about any age. Echo is a lonely 13 year old Metis girl in a new school who, in the middle of history class, finds herself transported to a bison hunt in 1814 on the Saskatchewan prairie. Oh, did I do a happy dance when I heard there was a new Tess Monoghan book coming from Laura Lippman! Hush Hush

Another wonderful Brit mystery series

Cover Image - The Sound of Broken GlassI only 'discovered' Deborah Crombie last year when I read No Mark Upon Her. (I loved it) I have been eagerly awaiting the next entry in her Duncan Kincaid/ Gemma James series. The Sound of Broken Glass (#15) is newly released.

Kincaid and James are husband and wife and both work for Scotland Yard. Duncan is staying at home right now with their three year old daughter and Gemma is heading up her first big murder case.

Flavia's latest case!

Book cover image - Speaking From Among the BonesAhh, there's nothing better than settling in for the day with a new book by a favourite author. And that's how I spent a recent Sunday -  on the couch beneath a sunny window enjoying the latest adventures of Alan Bradley's eleven year old sleuth - Flavia de Luce. Speaking From Among the Bones is the fifth book in this absolutely delightful series.

Another great British series

Book Cover Image - A Question of Identity

I first  'discovered'Susan Hill about this time last year when I read The Betrayal of Trust - the sixth in her Simon Serrailler Crime novels. I was really looking forward to her latest - A Question of Identity - and I wasn't disappointed!

Another Scandanavian author for you

Book cover image - Blessed Are Those Who Thirst

I  first 'discovered Anne Holt when I read the Edgar nominated 1222 featuring recurring protagonist Hanne Wilhelmsen last year.  Holt is a Norwegian author and started the Hanne series in 1993. Holt has worked for the Oslo P.D., as a lawyer and a journalist and news anchor as well. This extensive background has added much authenticity to this crime series.

Cozy "Christmas" mystery

Eleven Pipers Piping Book Cover ImageAha! I know what you're thinking - it's another Christmas book review. Well....yes and no.

The main character is Tom Christmas - a vicar in England - you could refer to him as Father Christmas. The book is set during the winter. And the title - well, the first book in this series was titled Twelve Drummers Drumming.  And if you're looking for a great book for the reader on your Christmas list this year, Eleven Pipers Piping would be a really good choice.
