Fines and Borrowing Periods

London Public Library no longer charges overdue fines

No overdue fines will be charged on materials returned past the due date. If an item is more than 28 days overdue the replacement cost of the material will be charged to the patron’s card. Once the item is returned then the replacement cost will be waived and no overdue fines will be charged. The Library uses the services of a Collection Agency and outstanding accounts may be referred to that Agency.

How to Pay Replacement Costs

Payment for replacement costs can be made at any London Public Library location. Debit, MasterCard, Visa and American Express are accepted at all locations except for Glanworth. Payment may also be made online through My Account using your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card, or PayPal account.

Lost or Damaged Items

Cardholders will be charged a replacement cost for lost or damaged items.

The Library does not accept donations of materials in lieu of replacement costs.

Loan Period

Effective October 3, 2022

  • Materials are generally loaned for a period of 21 days
  • High demand materials are loaned for 7 days
  • Book Club in a Bag, 42 days
  • eBooks, up to 21 days
  • eAudio, 21 days
  • eVideo, 3 days
  • WiFi Hotspots, 21 days
  • There is an overall limit of 60 items per library card
  • Materials taken out at one location may be returned to ANY library location
How to Return Items

Each location has a materials return chute which is open whenever the library is closed except for Cherryhill and Sherwood branches (chutes only available during mall operating hours). The Central Library has two return chutes; an exterior one located beside the entry doors facing Dundas St. and an interior one located in the wall beside the library windows facing the Citi Plaza courtyard.

Please note that board games and musical instruments must be returned to the location from which they were borrowed during open hours, not through the return chute.

Renewing Items

Items are automatically renewed 3 days before the due date unless there is an outstanding hold on the item or it has been renewed 3 times. Patrons will receive a courtesy email notice to let them know which items have been renewed. Patrons can also call the Library at 519-661-4600 to check the status of items on their account
