Armchair Travel: A Great Way to Go

As the weather starts to cool and we look toward frosty dark evenings to entertain ourselves, there are some great books you might like to cuddle up with. They will take you to warm and sunny places and let you travel the world without leaving your living room. I recommend you cuddle into a cosy chair, bring along a drink, and start your adventure. Enjoy!

Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Andalucia by Chris Stewart. This is a great story about a husband and his family as they try life in Spain. The book is full of wild adventures and entertaining situations. A light read that will keep a smile on your face.

A Trip to the Beach by Melinda Blanchard. This story is a beautiful story full of adventure and challenge as we follow the author and her husband while they move to the island of Anguilla to open their own restaurant. Their adventures are filled with wonderful caricatures of the local people, the beautiful island, and their hard work to accomplish their dream. This is a fantastic read. You may even be tempted to add a little paper umbrella to your beverage as you move from chapter to chapter. You may even want to pick up At Blanchard's Table: A Trip to the Beach Cookbook which is a collection of the recipes they serve in the restaurant.

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I read a lot of fiction, but this is definitely the most life changing. It has all the elements I love - travel, great people, food and personal introspection. But it also has a very loveable but manic author who moves from a place of great pain and sadness to a place of love, self-acceptance and peace with herself. A must read, especially for women.
