Travel to your summer job!

Want to combine travel, adventure and a summer job? Think about heading to the Yukon. Several years ago my son went on a 3 week vacation to the Yukon and while there visited Dawson City.  He had a great time as he met a lot of youth living and working there for the summer. He liked it so much that he went back the next summer and ended up staying for 13 years! Many B.C. students head there for jobs but you will meet youth from all over Canada.  And here is am amazing fact - the Germans are such fans of the Yukon that there is a direct flight into Whitehorse from Germany every single day in the summer!

The Yukon is a huge tourist destination in the summer (April - September) so there are lots of jobs. You can arrive there with pretty much a 100% chance of finding work - especially if you go in April. In fact, in Dawson City many students have 2 or 3 jobs. The wages are excellent as well - much more than the minimum wage in Ontario.

Whitehorse is surrounded by mountains and is a fabulous city of around 23,000 people.  And yes, it may seem like the boonies but you will find many of your favourite stores and restaurants - from Wal-Mart to Tim Hortons. Dawson City has a population of around 2,000 that swells much higher in the summer and will definitely be more of a "lack of comfort" adventure - no MacDonald's there - but you are a short drive from the Demspter Highway and some of the most gorgeous scenery and camping that you can imagine. And...at 3:00 a.m. in June and July the sky will be blue and the sun will shine.
