"Intensely Readable, Page-Turning Stories": the 2008 Man Booker Prize Shortlist

This year's Man Booker Prize shortlist includes novelists from India, England, Australia and Ireland.  Two of the authors (Aravind Adiga and Steve Toltz) are first-time novelists, and all of this year's nominees have been described by the judges as both "ambitious and approachable".  The winner will be announced in London, England on October 14th. The library has copies of all the shortlisted books, with one exception.  Philip Hensher's The Northern Clemency is not due to be released in Canada until March 2009.  We will purchase copies as soon as they become available.  In the meantime, you can enjoy the rest of the books on the list and choose your favourite:

The White Tiger / Aravind Adiga

The Secret Scripture / Sebastian Barry

Sea of Poppies / Amitav Ghosh

The Clothes on Their Backs / Linda Grant

A Fraction of the Whole / Steve Toltz
