Urban fiction

book cover image Have you ever read urban fiction? I wanted to read outside the box (my box) for a change and try it out. This one was recommended by a colleague, and I really liked it. Again, it's not what I usually read but it was a good story. And that's what I like... a good story. The main character Midnight, grows to be a strong young man, both physically and spiritually, and faces challenges but always wants to do the right thing.

Here is a write up about it: A devout Sudanese sent to America as a child, Midnight grows up to be a hard-working and good-looking teenager. Although he is surrounded by vices and temptations, his devotion to his religion, and his mother and sister prevents him from dishonourable action. When he falls in love with a young Japanese girl, he decides the only honourable thing to do is marry her. His coming-of-age story will appeal to readers of urban lit, a genre that this author is credited with starting.
