Ape House by Sara Gruen

book jacketMost of the time when I blog about a book I've read I claim I love it or at least really enjoyed it.  I finished reading Sara Gruen's latest novel "Ape House" with mixed feelings. The subject of the book is good...the novel follows scientist Isabel Duncan, who has dedicated her life to studying bonobo apes in an 'ape friendly' facility.  When the facility is bombed a radical animal rights group is blamed.  From there the apes are purchased by a seedy character who creates a reality show with the bonobos as the stars. Gruen includes many facinating details about this species of ape, and clearly has done her research (she actually worked with bonobos) but I found something lacking in the story. I loved her previous novel "Water for Elephants" but for me, "Ape House" wasn't as good. Have you read it? What did you think?
