The Day the Falls Stood Still

book cover imageThis was one of those novels I was sad to finish; I enjoyed it that much. The neat thing is that the author Cathy Marie Buchanan is coming to Central for a reading on Thursday, Feb.24. I can't wait to meet her and hear her read from this wonderful novel.  "The Day the Falls Stood Still" is a historical novel set in Niagara Falls, 1915. It follows Bess, who falls in love and marries 'a river man' of Niagara, much to the dismay of her parents. The story is not just about her relationship with her husband Tom, but is also filled with fascinating facts about the Falls and the various historical events/trajedies that took place during that time. If you get the chance come to the reading on the 24th! Hope to see you there. Here is a synopsis of the book:

Living in 1915 near Niagara Falls, seventeen-year-old Bess Heath, who is struggling to cope with the death of her sister and the disgrace of her family, and Tom Cole, whose sixth sense of the river and the falls aids him in daring rescues, are the key players in a transformative love story.
