Red Tape Holds Up New Bridge: what makes sentences easy or hard to understand?

Language is widely ambiguous.Structurally "The horse raced past the barn fell" is identical to "The landmine buried in the sand exploded". However, the first sentence is almost impossible to understand whereas the second is easy. Join us on Thursday, April 21 at 7 pm in the Stevenson & Hunt room A, where Dr. Ken McRae will talk about the aspects of language understanding that explain such differences. This is the third session in this year's series called Mind Your Words: the science of human language prepared by the faculty members of the UWO Psychology Department. The final session,  on April 28,  will focus on Bilingualism.
