The Hanging Wood by Martin Edwards

The British mystery genre has an enthusiastic following that devours the works of Peter Robinson, Reginald Hill, Elizabeth George, Colin Dexter and the like as fast as they can be written. I was recently surprised that I had missed the work of Martin Edwards. Edwards writes police procedurals set in the Lake District of England. His latest, The Hanging Wood, was the first I've read by him, but I now intend to go back and read the first four to get a better feel for the main characters, DCI Hannah Scarlett and historian Daniel Kind. The Lake District Mysteries are now officially on my "Recommend" list for readers of this genre.
