Join us for “Social Media: Getting Started”, a free program introducing you to Facebook and Twitter being offered at a variety of locations.

Are you confused by all the different types of "media" out in the great world wide web that we live in? Well you are not alone. It can be difficult to keep track of all the different types of social media. Everything from information sites such as Wikipedia, blogs like Tumblr, social networking sites such as facebook and even YouTube are all examples of social media. Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein define social media as "a group of Internet-based applications that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content”. In other words, social media is a way to communicate with other people in many different forms. Whether it is news updates, funny videos, the latest art work or what’s trending with celebrities, users can create, share and exchange with each other every minute of every day in any form they like.
