July 28 is World Hepatitis Day

Approximately 250,000 people in Canada are infected with Hepatitis C – a virus that causes liver disease. Unfortunately, many of those who have contracted the virus will not even know they have it until they are sick.

While there is no vaccine to stop Hep C, there are treatments for those who have it. Therefore, it’s important to get tested, especially for those who are engaging in high risk activities. Tests are offered at community health agencies such as the Regional HIV/AIDS Connection, the Middlesex-London Health Unit (STI Clinic) and the London InterCommunity Health Centre. You can also get tested at your family doctor or at a walk-in clinic.

For more information on Hepatitis C, have a look at our resources, or contact any one of the health providers mentioned above.
