Doris Lessing dies at 94

Visionary, feminist icon and Nobel prize-winning author Doris Lessing died peacefully at her London home this past Sunday.  A prolific writer of fiction, short stories, poetry and prose, Lessing is best known for her breakthrough novel, The Golden Notebook.  With this book she "broke ranks to explore the creative possibilities of disintegration: mental illness, political apostasy, the sex war, and the cold war between generations (Lorna Sage, The Guardian)."

Always an inventive, daring and outspoken writer; Lessing's voice will be missed.  Revisit some of Doris Lessing's fiction or check out one of the library's biographies of Lessing.  For more information about her work, visit www.dorislessing.org.
