Advocates in far reaching corners

call me kuchu dvd

Kuchu.  A word of Swahili origin that is a way to refer to homosexuals in Uganda where the state attempted to sanction homophobia. The film Call me Kuchu not only examines the struggles of the LGBT community in Uganda but it also focuses on the 2011 murder of LGBT activist David Kato.  Kato and retired Anglican Bishop Christopher Senyonjo worked to end this horrific political agenda.  Three weeks after a landmark victory David is brutally murdered.  His story remains strong and this DVD captures that story.

dvd cover: In good conscience

The relentless drive for equality for the LGBT community is far reaching - even into the Christian stronghold.  The film In good conscience : Sister Jeannine Gramick's journey of faith chronicles her battle against the church that has tried to shut down her ministry to gay and lesbian catholics.  She takes her battle all the way to the Vatican to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (the Inquisitor who would become Pope Benedict XVI) and Pope John Paul II.  Their ultimatum - denounce homosexuality or lose everything.  She refuses.  A story well worth paying attention to.
