Caring Community Collection

October is the Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Did you know that the Library has a collection created in cooperation with the London-Middlesex Child Abuse Prevention  Council, called Caring Community Collection.

The Caring Community Collection comprises a wide variety of print and audiovisual materials designed to raise awareness and provide information for you on topics related to child maltreatment, childhood trauma, sexual abuse survivor issues and provision of support for victims and survivors.

These books and videos are labeled “Caring Community Collection” and are located at Central   East London,  Jalna, and  Sherwood Library.

Although the books are interfiled with the rest of the collection they are easily spotted by this label on the spine.

The Caring Community Collection is a very rich resource of information on the topics related to child abuse.

One can find books for the abuse victims like Let your light shine! : learn how to overcome the effects of childhood abuse by Sheila M. Stevenson or  Healing from childhood abuse : understanding the effects, taking control to recover by John J. Lemoncelli , books for therapists and counsellors like: Working with abused children: focus on the child by Celia Doyle or A Guide to Youth Mentoring: providing effective social support by Pat Dolan and Bernadine Brady,  books for parents like Unmask the predators : the battle to protect your child by Lisa Cherry and Kalyn Cherry Waller or Internet child pornography : causes, investigation, and prevention by Richard Wortley and Stephen Smallbone, books for children like  Cyberbullying by Heather E. Schwartz, for teenagers like Lily and Taylor by  Elise Moser a story of a murder, which happened as an incident of domestic abuse.

This collection will appeal to anybody interested in the topic whether it is a personal interest, work on a school paper or information seeking self-help journey.
