My Funny Valentine

Valentines card

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and that usually means a surge of popularity for greeting cards, chocolates, flowers and romantic music.  It's hard to think of another subject that is as widely expressed in music as the topic of love.

One song that has become entwined with February 14th is My Funny Valentine.  The lyrics were writen by Lorenz Hart and set to music by Richard Rodgers.

Ironically, this song from the1937 theatre play Babes in Arms had nothing to do with the celebration of the hearts and flowers day.

Recorded by over 600 artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra and the iconic Chet Baker on some 1300 albums the tune has become one of the most popular ballads associated with Valentine's Day sentiment.
