Don't Go There

book cover image Atlas of Cursed Places

Some places, it seems, are better left unexplored. In Atlas of Cursed Places, journalist Oliver Le Carrer takes the reader on armchair journey to the world's most dangerous places, complete with vintage maps and period illustrations.

He says of the so-called Nevada Triangle, for example, "The red sand is ringed by snow-capped mountains and impenetrable forests populated by tetchy bears."

Yet, the bears are the least of the traveler's worries. "Thanks to the turbulence generated by the rugged landscape" he says "more than 2,000 aircraft have gone missing there".
