Throwback Thursday - Lois Duncan

I know what you did last summer

I recently decided to re-read some books by an author I loved when I was in my teens – Lois Duncan. Duncan’s most well-known title is probably I Know What You Did Last Summer (remember that movie?) but she has lots of other titles for teens - and for those who love teen reads!

Duncan’s books are thrillers with a dose  of creepy – the paranormal and the supernatural feature prominently in all of her books. She covers subjects from ESP to witchcraft to plain old magic, while also featuring normal high school problems like cliques and bullying.

Written from the 1970’s to the late 1990’s, Duncan’s books might have started to seem dated – until many of them got a facelift in 2010! Duncan went through and updated many of her titles to bring them into the 21st century. This involved adding cell phones and computers, getting rid of the polyester pant suits and updating the dialogue to sound more modern.

Want more blast from the past authors like Lois Duncan? Try Cynthia Voigt or Mary Downing Hahn. Looking for something a little more contemporary? Try E. Lockhart or Ursula Poznanski.
