Crystal Palace Shattered!!

90 years ago on January 30, 1927, an arsonist set fire to the Crystal Palace at the Western Fair.  It was destroyed  and replaced with the red-brick Confederation Building.  This was London's second Crystal Palace, built in 1887 when the Western Fair was first held at Queen's Park.  The original octagonal Crystal Palace opened on September 10, 1861 just north of Great Market Street (now Central Avenue) between Richmond and Waterloo streets.
