OCDaniel was one of my top ten favourite Canadian children's books of 2016. This is a middle grade novel about a boy living with obsessive compulsive disorder. Daniel talks about his habits that he calls "Zaps", which include avoiding writing down certain numbers, and a nightly routine of flicking a light switch on and off for hours.

He desperately tries to keep his rituals a secret from his family and friends. When he meets a classmate who asks for his help in solving a mystery, he realizes he doesn't have to suffer alone. Daniel's is a voice we don't often hear in children's literature, and it is candid and authentic and the book immediately draws you into his world. In the author's note, Wesley King explains that Daniel is based on his own experiences growing up with OCD.

I was tickled pink to meet Wesley King when he came to our Book Camp last summer! He is a writer to watch.
