Merilyn Simond's recent book Gutenberg's fingerprint : paper, pixels, and the lasting impression of books trolls through the past, present, and evolving future of the book.  This work is a fascinating look at the myths, inventions, and consequences of the digital shift and how we read today. 

Local poets are invited to enter the 8^th Annual Poetry Contest, sponsored by Poetry London and the London Public Library. The contest is open to both established and emerging poets, who will write poems on the theme ‘The Streets of London.’ Laurie Graham, who is a poet, teacher and assistant editor of Brick, A Literary Journal, will judge the contest.

Awards of $200 and $100 will be presented to the 1^st and 2^nd place poems.

The Grit Uplifted writing workshop begins its new 14-week series on Saturday, June 1.   Meeting on Saturdays from 2-4 pm, the group is "an open forum for learning, self-expression and the building of trust and community for people that are homeless, at risk of being homeless, or have experienced homelessness."

If you are interested in advice and feedback on your own creative writing efforts, take advantage of a free program, Creative Writing Tips & Blue Pencil Editing by the Humber School for Writers, on Saturday, April 2, 2011, 10:30 am-12 noon at the Central Library in Stevenson & Hunt Room A.

If you are a budding writer this course may be the one for you. It's called "How to Get Published" and runs on Saturday Nov.6 at the Central Library from 10am-4pm. The workshop leader Brian Henry has been a book editor and creative writing instructor for more than 25 years. He teaches creative writing at Ryerson university and George Brown College and has led workshops everywhere from Boston to Buffalo, from Sarnia to Moncton. He will cover getting started, getting an agent, getting your short pieces published, finding a book publisher and more.

Did you know that April is National Poetry Month?  Teens at Central Library's Teen Annex celebrated poetry at the Coffeehouse for Young Writers on Wednesday, April 14th.
