COVID-19 Service Updates

Service Update February 27: London will move into the Orange Zone of the Provincial COVID-19 Framework on Monday, March 1. As of this date, the maximum length of in-person visit times will increase to 2 hours maximum daily (including computer and WiFi use).  There are no other changes to Library services and the health and safety measures listed bleow remain in place and operating hours remain unchanged.

On February 22 & 23, all library locations re-opened with a Red Zone service model. Glanworth Branch remains closed..

Here's what to expect when you visit a London Public Library location while London is in the Red Zone of the Provincial COVID-19 Framework:
  • Face masks that cover the nose, mouth and chin are required to be worn inside all London Public Library buildings by those 2 years of age and older. If, under City of London By-law - PH-20, you are exempt from wearing a face mask, you will be provided with a face shield to wear during your visit.
  • Visits will be limited to 45 minutes daily, including computer use.
  • You are welcome to browse the shelves, use a computer, printer or photocopier or sit at a table to study, read, or use wifi for up to 45 minutes daily.
  • Capacity limits and distancing (of computers, chairs, tables, etc.) are in place. At busy times there may be a short wait to enter or to use a computer.
  • Self-checkout is available and assistance from Library staff will be provided at a safe distance, including when using a computer, photocopier and printer.
  • There are printing and photocopying limits at this time. Please call or talk to staff at the location for more information.
  • Limited washroom access will be available at all locations. At Central Library, two washrooms along the main floor Passageway will be available during Library hours.
  • Please continue to return all items using our outdoor return chutes. No inside returns please. We are continuing to quarantine all returned items, which means it could take some time before items are removed from your account. Late fines are no longer charged at London Public Library.

Returns

Return items at any time, using OUTDOOR RETURN CHUTES at any location. At Cherryhill and Sherwood, return chute is inside mall. At Central, return chutes are located on Dundas St and facing out from the Library into Citi Plaza. No returns available at Glanworth.

  • Please bring large items, such as musical instruments, book club bag sets or board games to the large item return bin located inside locations.
  • Book donations are not being accepted at this time. The Friends of the Library may be able to arrange pick up of your donated books. Call 519-661-2448 to arrange.
  • Once returned, all items will be quarantined for at least 3 days. It will take some time before these items are removed from your account. No late fines will be charged.

Items can be returned using the return chutes outside any location EXCEPT for Glanworth.

We've increased the borrowing period for all items by a week and added an auto-renew feature!

All items borrowed will automatically renew up to 3 times unless there is a hold on the item. However, items that have holds are not able to be renewed so please check your account to confirm due dates for all items.

Borrowing Periods:

  • 4 weeks for regular items, with items automatically renewing for an extra 3 weeks for up 3 times unless there is a hold on the items.
  • 2 weeks for feature film DVDs with items automatically renewing for an extra week for up to 3 times unless there is a hold on the items.

Borrowing Limits:

You may borrow up to 60 items per library card (this includes DVDs, which no longer have a borrowing limit of 20).

You can borrow and place holds on up to 20 digital items in Overdrive and Libby. We encourage you to return your digital items as soon as you are done.

Fines

Late fines are no longer charged for items returned past their due date!

However, replacement costs for items that are damaged or not returned after due dates will still apply. Outstanding replacement costs for lost or damaged items will still apply. You can pay online through your account or call us at 519-661-4600.

You can still use all the online resources available in our Digital Library even if you have fines.

Place holds for items in our catalogue as you did previously, choosing your preferred location. Your holds will be available for you to pick up inside and check out yourself using our self-check computers.

To change the pick up location for holds that are not yet available, log into My Account and select Holds. Under Pickup Location, drop the arrow down and select the preferred pickup location. When finished, selecct Update List to agree to the change.

Board Games, Musical Instruments and Leisure Kits are not available to borrow at this time.

For more information on using the catalogue and your account, please view the Catalogue and My Account Help page.

If you need help placing holds or requesting items, please call us at (519) 661-4600.

If you have questions about fines, your account or Library cards, please email or call us so we can assist you in using the Library.

If you'd like reading recommendations, we’re here to help! Please use our We Pick or Personal Picks form for adults or children.

Please do not clean or disinfect borrowed library items. This will cause damage to the items and a replacement charge may apply.

Instead, we recommend quarantining or leaving your item for at least 24 hours after pick up and have extended all due dates by one week to allow for this.

We will be quarantining all returned items for at least 3 days and are only accepting returns through our outside return chutes for safety reasons. As a result, it could take up to a week for returned items to be removed from your account and holds may take longer to become available. We thank you for your patience as we make community and staff safety our priority.
