Perhaps I was drawn to the Toronto-based band The Rural Alberta Advantage [2] (colloquially deemed RAA) because my roots are deep in rural Alberta, but the complex coming-of-age sounds keep me coming back to this indie-rock gem. Singer-songwriter Nils is said to have done a lot of the writing for this haunting, almost rickety, album at a rented cottage on the Bruce Peninsula, including the catchy and my personal favourite track "To Be Scared". The emotionally-charged album is the third and latest from the musicians with many tracks minimally arranged and small, but culminating in big, catastrophic endings.
