Start With WORDS
21 November 2014 - 3:17pm
From the minute they’re born, we want our children to be everything they can be. The moment we first look into their little eyes, we believe they will change the world... And they can. It all starts with words!
The Child and Youth Network has recently launched a campaign to encourage anyone who touches the life of a child to add more words to their day. Research has shown that the number of words a child hears before the age of 3 has a profound impact on language development and on future academic success. Not only is the quantity of words heard important, but so too is the quality of words heard. Words that are positive and spoken in a friendly and encouraging way have the greatest impact. Aim to share 2000 words per hour to help your child learn and grow. You can do this by talking, reading, singing, playing and rhyming together. Whether you are at home, on the bus, in the car, in the park, at the libary's storytime, or at the dinner table, it’s easier than you think!
