Ahh, Banks is back!
30 September 2016 - 3:19pmOne of my absolute, all time favourite series, that never, ever disappoints, is Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks novels.
He almost got away
20 October 2015 - 7:34pmAnother wonderful Brit mystery series
15 March 2013 - 3:15pmI only 'discovered' Deborah Crombie last year when I read No Mark Upon Her. (I loved it) I have been eagerly awaiting the next entry in her Duncan Kincaid/ Gemma James series. The Sound of Broken Glass (#15) is newly released.
Kincaid and James are husband and wife and both work for Scotland Yard. Duncan is staying at home right now with their three year old daughter and Gemma is heading up her first big murder case.
Unique detective series
9 March 2013 - 10:56amPeggy Blair introduced readers to Inspector Ricardo Ramirez of the Havana Major Crimes Unit last year with her first novel The Beggar's Opera. I loved it and so did a lot of other folks. It was the 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize Reader's Choice Winner, the CBC Bookie Award Winner for Best Canadian Crime Novel and was shortlisted for the Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger Award!
Needless to say, I was very eager to pick up the second book - The Poisoned Pawn. Did it live up to the first? Absolutely - and more!
Grim, gritty and a great read
23 February 2013 - 10:48amStuart MacBride is another author whose name I was familiar with, but hadn't sampled yet. Well, that's all changed. I just read Birthdays for the Dead and I am hooked.
Department Q - Cold Cases
26 January 2013 - 11:51amI read the first book of Jussi Adler-Olsen's Department Q series The Keeper of Lost Causes - and just knew I would be in a for another fantastic read with the second book - The Absent One.
Department Q is the division of the Copenhagen P.D. dedicated to the resolution of cold cases. The staff is not large - it is only Detective Carl Morck and his assistant Assad. The characters and their interplay are a big reason I am so enamoured of this series.
Another great British series
18 January 2013 - 4:32pmI first 'discovered'Susan Hill about this time last year when I read The Betrayal of Trust - the sixth in her Simon Serrailler Crime novels. I was really looking forward to her latest - A Question of Identity - and I wasn't disappointed!
Bosch is back!
7 December 2012 - 4:31pmOh, Harry Bosch is back! I started Michael Connelly's latest book in the series (#18) - The Black Box - and I tried really, really hard to make it last.....but it was no use.....I finished it in a day. I literally couldn't put it down.
